About Me:

My name is Fiona.  I am a PTUK (Play Therapy UK) registered and qualified Play Therapist and Creative Arts Counsellor for Children and Young People.  ​I am registered with Play Therapy UK (PTUK) , I adhere to their ethical standards and have regular clinical supervision. I was first drawn to play and creative arts therapy when I was working as a  Montessori teacher. I  witnessed how powerfully play and creativity helped children work through what they were struggling with — often more effectively than words alone and this inspired me to begin my training as a  Play Therapist, and later as a Creative Arts Counsellor. Since 2017, I have provided 1:1 and group therapy in local primary schools and in private practice. I am also employed by the nature-based charity Dandelion Time, which supports children and their families to heal from traumatic experiences. My approach is based on person-centred, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming principles and I integrate different elements of my broad training and experience to tailor each session  to the individual needs of your young person.

 ​I undertake regular specialist training to ensure my continuing professional development. Recent trainings include: 'Developmental Trauma for Professionals', 'Working with Situational Mutism', 'Supporting the mental health of LGBTQ+ Children and Young People','Working with Grief and Loss' and 'Understanding and Helping Demand Avoidant Adolescents'. 

My particular interest is in the value of nature in assisting healing and recovery. My studio is set in peaceful Hemsted Forest, meaning we can take advantage of being fully immersed in the natural world. Away from sessions, I'm a mum of three teenagers. We have two dogs, two cats, four chickens, a rabbit and a guinea pig — who occasionally makes a guest appearance for a therapeutic cuddle!
